Librato Adds Benefits to LS-DYNA® Simulations
Librato Availability Services provides LS-DYNA users with the ability to checkpoint/migrate/restart simulations, resulting in improved Quality of Service and resource utilization
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – March 4, 2010 – Librato®, Inc., a leading provider of software solutions that increase the utilization of cloud, grid and data center resources, today announced a partnership with Livermore Software Technology Corporation (LSTC) and support for LSTC’s simulation software package LS-DYNA. As a result of this partnership, Librato’s Availability Services (AvS) enables LS-DYNA customers to minimize the impact of unexpected failures and to preempt and migrate simulation jobs.
LSTC developed LS-DYNA as a general-purpose, transient, dynamic, finite-element program used to simulate complex real-world problems. LS-DYNA is used by automotive, aerospace, construction, manufacturing, and bioengineering companies worldwide for a large variety of simulations. These simulations include vehicle design analysis, sheet metal forming, and drop testing. Simulations that run on LS-DYNA can be extremely compute intensive and run for long periods of time across many nodes in a grid, resulting in a higher probability of hardware failure. Librato AvS now makes it possible to take periodic checkpoints of LS-DYNA simulation jobs, capturing the entire job state across all nodes and allowing the simulation to be resumed from a checkpoint in case of a failure.
“LS-DYNA is widely regarded as the industry’s premier simulation solution” said Fred van den Bosch, CEO of Librato. “We are very pleased that our partnership with LSTC now makes it possible for LS-DYNA users to benefit from the ability of AvS to checkpoint, suspend, and migrate simulation jobs so that users can maximize the benefits of their LSTC software”.
“AvS requires no changes to the LS-DYNA software or the Linux operating system” said Dr. Wayne Mindle of LSTC. “Since it runs 100% in user space, it is very easy for our customers to deploy it in their existing environment.”
